Staying motivated in the winter can be tough with early sunsets and chilly temperatures - who really wants to leave a cozy bed? Although you may not be as motivated to be outside, it’s incredibly important to make sure you stay active even during the colder months!
Struggling to stay active during the winter? We’re here to help!
Here are a few ways you can stay moving in the colder months:
Strength train: Gyms are typically indoors and help you get warm quickly when you start lifting weights!
Don’t have a gym? Contact us! We partner with several local gyms and would be happy to help you find the perfect fit.
New to strength training? Need something to follow? Check out our online programs and feel free to contact us for help!
Shift your goals: Maybe your focus over the summer was getting in running miles, swimming, hiking, biking, pickleball, etc. in the warmer weather. With the colder months here, it might be the perfect time to address those nagging injuries you've been putting off. Prioritize your mobility and pre-hab exercises if you have some extra time in the winter months.
Try something new: try a new class, exercise program, and/or a new type of exercise.
Grab a friend and/or community to help you stay active: Working out is more fun with friends!
Make movement intentional throughout the day: If you aren’t going on walks as regularly due to poor weather, try to sprinkle in movement throughout the day. Park a little farther from the door, take the stairs instead of the elevator, get up and stand/move every hour at work.
Other benefits of staying active in the winter:
Keeping a consistent activity level year-round helps manage “overuse” type injuries: You’ll be better prepared to get back into your fun spring and summer activities if you’ve maintained a level of strength and endurance over the winter months.
Physical activity can help with overall mood and energy levels!
